Two types of accumulators
Diaphragm accumulators and piston accumulators are both types of hydraulic accumulators that are used to store energy in a hydraulic system. Both types of accumulators use a flexible barrier to separate the gas and fluid in the accumulator, but they use different methods to accomplish this.
In a diaphragm accumulator, the flexible barrier is a diaphragm that moves up and down as the pressure in the accumulator changes. The diaphragm is attached to a rod, and the movement of the diaphragm causes the rod to move. This movement can be used to perform work in the hydraulic system.
In a piston accumulator, the flexible barrier is a piston that moves up and down as the pressure in the accumulator changes. The piston is connected to a cylinder, and the movement of the piston causes the volume of the cylinder to change. This change in volume can be used to store or release energy in the hydraulic system.
Both diaphragm and piston accumulators have their own advantages and disadvantages. Diaphragm accumulators are generally simpler in design and are easier to manufacture, but they are not as efficient as piston accumulators. Piston accumulators are more efficient, but they are more complex and more expensive to manufacture.
